The essence of life is connection. We are designed to relate—to ourselves, to others, and to the world around us. Yet, in the fast-paced, modern world, it’s easy to drift away from this natural state. Without even realising it, we can become detached from our bodies, emotions, loved ones, and even the rhythms of nature. The cycles of the day, the changing seasons, the joys and struggles we experience—slowly, they fade into the background as we move through life on autopilot.
In psychology, this experience is often linked to dissociation, a response of the nervous system when faced with overwhelming situations. It is a survival mechanism, allowing us to cope with fear or uncertainty. In the short term, it can be protective. But over time, losing connection to ourselves and the world around us leads to stagnation—because life thrives on presence, on relationships, on deep engagement.

I am an advocate of aliveness and vibrancy. When designing the Elemental Leadership concept, my intention was to create space for leaders to rekindle their sense of connection—with themselves, with others, and with the fundamental elements that sustain life. I envisioned a retreat that brings people back to their core, enabling them to lead with authenticity and presence.

Thanks to Paul Gleeson from Below the Line, Elemental Leadership has grown beyond what I imagined. The setting Paul created in Kinsale last May, along with his passion and creativity, helped this vision flourish. Most importantly, the openness and honesty of our participants transformed the experience into something truly magical—where connection became the heart of it all.

Through my own journey, I have learned how vital it is to be led by someone who is fully alive and engaged. Leaders shape the energy of their teams and organisations. Imagine yourself as a leader who is truly present, connected to life on multiple levels—how transformative would that be for those around you?
Elemental Leadership challenges and supports leaders in unlocking deeper levels of connection—to themselves, their work, and the world. If you’d like to experience the spirit of Elemental Leadership, here’s a short video from our previous retreat.
